Bar soap packaging

Angela Hogan Oct 31, 2016 03:40PM EDT

Would you please package all of your bar soaps in recyclable materials?
I really like your Manuka Honey & Mafura oil shea butter soap (which is wrapped in paper), but I would like to try your other soaps. What stops me from buying them is that I can't recycle the plastic packaging.
Thank you.

Hi Angela,
Thank you for contacting SheaMoisture. Currently we do not have any plans for changing the packaging for our soaps but your information was forwarded to our Product Development Team for consideration. A change in packaging will be taken into consideration. We cannot make any promises at this time that it will be changed but we will certainly look into this request. Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to receive updates on new products being launched as well as updates to existing products.
Thank you again for reaching out to us and for providing your feedback, we appreciate it!

Seconded. Like Angela, I'd be more likely to buy your products if the packaging was more sustainable.
Also, can you provide some information on palm oil souring? I don't see any information on the Shea Moisture or Sundial Brands pages. Is it sourced from West Africa or Asia?

Hello jkaybay,
We understand this issue regarding animals and appreciate you reaching out to us and showing concern regarding our ingredients. In order to ensure laws are adhered to, and to encourage sustainability throughout the industry, in 2004, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was formed. Made up of a consortium of NGO’s and palm oil producers, the voluntary organization hopes to encourage palm oil producers to adopt practices and guidelines that would lead to palm oil production becoming environmentally and socially sustainable. Hence, by joining the organization companies are obliged to comply with the RSPO’s ‘Principles & Criteria’, which stipulate that all palm oil producers commit to transparency, comply with all laws and regulations of the countries they are working in, commit to long term economic viability, use appropriate best practices, behave in an environmentally responsible way and conserve natural resources and biodiversity, consider employees and local communities and adhere to responsible development. As an animal cruelty-free company, our palm oil is sourced from a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and assure you that no animals were harmed or environments affected when receiving this ingredient.

I feel the same about the packaging of bar soap. I love the Baby Eczema bar soap but I don't love the plastic wrapper. Can't you stamp the ingredients label onto the soap instead? Other bar soaps are sold bare. I discuss this on my you tube channel. @ Gina Slattery

Hi Gina,
Thank you for contacting SheaMoisture. We have looked into other options for soaps and are working with our suppliers for updated packaging. Stamping the ingredients on the bar soap is a cool idea too and will bring that up to our product development team. Thank you again for reaching out to us and for showing SheaLove! We appreciate it!
Best regards,
