Where/how do you source your silk protein?

Rachel Aug 23, 2018 06:20AM EDT

I have heard some great things about your Curl Enhancing Smoothie but I've noticed that it contains silk protein, which to my knowledge can never be obtained without boiling insects alive. One of the reasons I was drawn to your brand was because you carry a "cruelty free" label, however if silk is used in your products, and is produced this way, then this can't really be said to be cruelty free. I would be grateful if you could provide some more information on this please.

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for contacting SheaMoisture. Our Coconut & Hibiscus products do contain silk protein derived from silk worms. Our supplier has shown an animal cruelty free way for receiving the silk. As an animal cruelty-free company, our only stance is to ensure safety for animals and if there was no way to receive this silk peacefully, we will find another ingredient to use in placement. We appreciate you reaching out to us and showing concern over the ingredients used in products. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Best regards ,
